City & Guilds Patchwork and Quilting

I was asked to create a pattern using stencilling as the main focus.  The stencil itself was made from freezer paper, the stencil medium was oil pastel on to hand dyed fabric.  This is a very effective way of adding colour and pattern to fabric without having to do any additional stitching if it is not required.  It could be used as a basis for faux appliqué and/ or shadow appliqué to name just two ideas.  The oil pastel becomes permanent and will stand gently washing after a period of curing and heat fixing (always follow the manufacturer’s instructions)
